Intermodal Cargo
Trailers have been in weekly year-over-year decline, exceeding 30 percent since late February and plummeting more than 35 percent since mid-April. In the week ending June 27, trailers declined 39. 6 percent, containers declined 11. 8 percent and intermodal overall declined 17. 9 percent over the same week last year. In the first 25 weeks of the year, intermodal cargoes fell 17 percent with trailers declining 34. 2 percent and containers off 12. 2 percent from the same period in 2008.

Through May this year, exports made up 49. 2 percent of the trade. Last year, exports totaled 42. 5 percent of the trade and fell 1.9 percent over 2007 results.

Although Port Metro Vancouver’s May 2009 import TEU volume fell 24. 9 percent over May 2008 and deeper than the 23. 7 percent decline of January through May 2009 from a year earlier, in comparison to April 2009 May imports were essentially stable. Last year, imports declined 1.9 percent year-over-year from 2007 and made up 57.5 percent of the trade.
